16/04/23, the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso Constituency, Hon Prof Kingsley Nyarko together with H.E Edward Boateng, Patron, Grateful Hearts Foundation and the CEO, State Interests and Governance Authority(SIGA), made a donation of items to facilitate mobility of Person living with disabilities in the constituency.
The impetus and motivation for this gesture was to extend assistance to constituents who are confronted with challenges in movements because of their physical impairments.
“ I am your member of Parliament for all inclusivity- a practice of providing equal access, opportunities and resources for people who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized”, the MP said. Prof Nyarko, also averred that being disabled doesn’t mean that you cannot functionally contribute to your own life, your family, children and society. He encouraged them to do away with self-pity and believe in their abilities to make a difference in society. He observed that the intelligent quotient (IQ) of some persons with disability might be higher than some abled persons, and challenged the government and significant members and institutions of society to do more to support persons with disabilities.
HE Edward Boateng, underscored the need for parliament to ensure the executive ensures the implementation of the disability act, 2006 (Act 715) to fully benefit persons with disabilities. He also made references to physically persons such as Stephen Hawking—a notable scientist whose contributions opened the space for technological advancement and propounded the black hole and Big Bang theories.
Kwasi Kyei, also reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the needs of persons with disabilities are catered for by government and society at large.
40 wheel chairs, 40 walking sticks, 30 crutches, 30 white canes and 30 Underarm crutches were provided for to support our brothers and sisters living with disabilities.
