KWADASO ASSEMBLY HANDS OVER PROJECT SITES UNDER GKMA TO CONTRACTORS.

 

The Kwadaso Municipal Assembly has on 15th February, 2023 handed over fourteen (14) project sites to contractors for works to start on the construction of Institutional Toilet Facilities under the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area (GKMA) Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) project.

The project is part of intervention programmes geared towards improving Water Sanitation and Hygiene(WASH) in some selected Health and Educational Institutions in some selected communities in the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Assemblies.

The programme which is an initiative of the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources is being funded by the World Bank.

The project beneficiaries are Kwadaso M/A Primary School, Ohwimase M/A kindergarten and Primary “A”, Apatrapa R/C JHS and Apatrapa Primary “A” Kindergarten and Prempeh College Exp. M/A Primary A and B.

Others include Nwamase M/A Kindergarten and Primary, Apatrapa Health Centre, Kwadaso SDA Primary, Municipal Education Directorate and Kwadaso Asuoyeboah SDA A and B.

A pre commencement meeting which brought together some key stakeholders such as the Municipal Chief Executive for Kwadaso, Honorable Richmond Agyenim Boateng, the Project Consultant, Contractors, Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Emmanuel Ntoso, the Municipal Engineer, Municipal Planning Officer, some Assembly Members and Heads of Department to dialogue on the smooth implementation of the project.

Speaking at the event, the Municipal Chief Executive for Kwadaso, Honorable Richmond Agyenim Boateng commended the President and the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources for selecting the Municipality as part of the beneficiaries.
He appealed to the contractors to deliver a quality work as anything short of that will not be tolerated.

The MCE called for effective supervision from the Municipal Engineer, the Planning Unit and the Consultant.

According to the project Consultant, Mr. Daniel Adu-Gyamfi, the project has a WASH component which seeks to provide toilet facilities to Basic schools and Health facilities in the Six Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Assemblies.

He appealed to the contractors to finish the projects on time and execute the job to the specifications in the contract.

He cautioned the contractors that, his outfit would not accept any shoddy work that cannot stand the test of time.

Mr. Daniel Adu-Gyamfi informed the stakeholders that, construction works would commence on 1ST March, 2023 as contracts have already been awarded to contractors and the contract duration is six months.

He urged all the stakeholders to cooperate with the contractors when work commences and also monitor to ensure speedy work but was quick to add that, if contractors fail to report to site, stakeholders should draw the attention of the consultant or the Municipal Engineer.
